As many of you know, the playstation 2 platform has a HUGE library of games. But, from my experience, some of the most awesome games on that system were also hidden and hard to find. I like to call these gems. Gems amongst polished and unpolished rocks and stones.
Post any games that you would consider to be gems. BTW, gems don't necessarily have to be rare, just under rated I guess.
Mine would be;
1.) Ico -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ico very rare game to find, i bought my copy around 8 years ago. Found it in the used section at a gamestop.
2.) Shadow of the Colossus -somehow this game is related to Ico.
3.) Zone of the Enders 1&2
4.) Red Faction 1

0o0o0o Psychonauts would be considered a gem, although I never got into it. I'm planning on buying a ps2 again, so I'll probably play this sometime.
Kingdom Heats, a great game, but is NOT underrated or hard to find, therefore would not be considered a gem. Sorry to burst your bubble(pun intended) lol

Odin Sphere. One of the best PS2 titles out of thousands to choose from. I even bought a used PS2 last year just to play it again. SUCH a good game.

LBP is not worth spending $300, especially when you have a drum set to save for. Uncharted 2 or Demon's Souls, maybe. But Little Big Planet is meh IMO.

well I never did get to buy/play it =/ But yeah, the drum set savings is cancelled for now. I tried for 6 ****ing months to sell my Pearl set, and didnt get anything above 150 (way too cheap). Screw it, i'll try again later.

Odin Sphere? Never heard of it, so it MUST be a gem.
It looks pretty interesting actually and published by square enix, so I'll take your word for it and check it out when I buy a ps2.

One great game I need to add here is Okami. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are two of my all time favourites, too
