Hi there, I haven't gotten a chance to play yet but I figured I would post this while I wait, I enjoy playing the tactical advance wars games and when I saw this it kinda seemed like an even better advanced wars. So I wanted to know if you can win with a infantry strategy, a mechanical strategy, or air strategy if you focus solely on them? Or do you have to be balanced among the three to win most games?
You want a little bit of everything. Here's my summary of every unit:
Infantry: Vital for capturing resource / control points -- lousy damage/armor
Recon: REQUIRED. Great vision/scouting, terrible damage/armor
Artillery: Great anti-ground, but no air damage. LONG range, but poor vision.
*artillery and recon are good together (long range + long vision = long range attacks)
AA (Anti-Air): REQUIRED. Good vision. Best by far against air, but not good against ground.
Light Tank: Great in packs, terrible on their own -- they're cheap, so buy 2 or 3 close together before you move em out
Heavy Tank: Rarely worth it, in my oppinion
Heli: Great anti-ground, but no air damage. Poor range, but amazingly good if not around an AA
Fighter: GREAT movement, attacks both air and ground decently. Good range as well.
*Fighter and Recon (and transport vehicles) move very quickly
Personal oppinion, but here's the importance of units for me:
infantry > AA > recon > artillery > light tank > heli > fighter > heavy tank
