 Post subject: Best ways to GET FIT!

haha okay so, as a 15 year old kid, my metabolism is awesome. I eat when i'm hungry, until i'm full, yet stay really skinny. However most of you know that i'm a band guy, and therefore suck at just about every sports. My delimna: I'm skinny, but INCREDIBLY out of shape. So... what's the best way to get in shape?

Work out?
Run/jog?
Play sports?

Whatever it is, what is a good amount to do each day to get started, then how much do you increase?

Well, depends on how much are you willing to train every day, and what kind of activity you like. Please remember that since I don´t know you, all advise should be taken with care

Running: as long as you have somewhere to train nearby (a park, quiet road, field, etc), can´t go wrong with this one; you can train whenever you want, and you can train for virtually free (just need shoes, nothing too fancy). Only drawback is that it may be a bit too lonely if you are the social type (which judging by your post count, you are :) )

Finding a group to train with can greatly help you start, and stick with it.

Sports: it´s usually a great way to get and stay fit, and the social environment can be a plus. Usually needs some kind of equipment (hence $$).

Work out: if you are 15, I´d be careful here. Improper weight lifting can have some drawbacks for teenagers; always consult with a specialist here.


If you find you dont have problem with a bit of contact, I´d suggest you also look into martial arts, MMA in particular. Gets you in shape pretty quickly, although observations for "sports" apply (gotta buy some gear, pay for lessons, etc)

And at any rate... if you haven´t trained that much before, whatever you do START NICE AND EASY, DUDE!

actually, all my friends in the neighborhood moved away, so i don't have anyone to play sports with, otherwise id so do that. I suck at em and hate watchin em, but theyre still really fun to play. And yeah, the street i live on is exactly a mile long (give or take) and my house is right in the middle so it's easy to measure distance

I don't have time for martial arts or anything like that. I'm in 6+ bands a year, and starting next year, have to actually DO school work (ap classes and all honors). My grandfather actually, really likes going to the YMCA, though his vision is bad (he's giving me his [fairly new] trailblazer when i get my license in november ^^) so i might be driving him there a lot this summer. So while i'm there i could find out about lifting weights. The only thing about that is that i'd have to do it the girl way (less weight for longer) because I LIKE being skinny and scrawny xD i just dont like being out of breath after running for 5 minutes, or not being able to lift anything heavy.

Get really, really good at DDR. I was a tournament-level player back when I was 19 and I was in the best shape of my life. Really skinny (had to quit because I lost too much weight) but I could run 2 miles without being winded.

You could also go to Wal-Mart and get a 40 lbs. barbell set and do some curls/raises/flies twice a week. Start with really low weight and work your way up over the months. You'll need some strong arms to keep drumming. :)

i actually have DDR extreme (from.. 2000? 2001? the green box lol) and a wireless mat for my ps2. once upon a time i could buff out heavy songs for an hour straight. Now i'm at that awkward point where stanard's too easy and heavy's too hard :(

All this stuff with Wii sports, natal etc....wont help you (much). It could help a fat person a bit, but it's not really the right thing for you. Also I don't know wether you can keep up a workout for a long time, it's really boring and without a fellow annoying. I've started a workout with 16 and stopped it after a year ( I was just too young ). Now with 19 it's much better and I can keep up the training. So I would suggest you to join a teamsport like soccer or maybe go play tennis... it's a lot of fun and trains your body quiet well. But you can also just go jogging that will help well. It's up to you, since there isnt a way that is easy or better. You have to decide which kind of sport you can endure.

Mmk ^^ I like playin sports, but i doubt i'll join a team. highly doubt. I duno if i need to RIGHT now, but i've been wantin to get into the habbit, and i'll HAVE to by the time i start college, so why not get a head start?

so if i understand you correctly you want to build up some muscles right?

maybe you could just start with doing some push ups/sit ups or pull ups. like every day dunno 2 or 3 times 20 each or something

no no no no no. I LIKE being tall, skinny, and scrawny. In americanized english, being "fit" or "in shape" simply means that your body is really good, so, for example, you can run a mile without having to stop and walk. Or you don't get tired after 2 minutes of playing a sport. I DONT want big muscles. My cousin is 18 and a big bulky weight lifter, and i REALLY don't want to be like him lol. Just wanna be in shape ^^
