This is something valve is doing for Left 4 Dead 2 starting on thursday. Lfseenny actually touched on this in another post, but I wanted to bring it up here. Have a special gametype that changes how it's played each week.
For example, one of the first mutations for L4D2 is to have only chainsaws available with infinite ammo for that week. So in BD, it could be like, certain units are cheapers that week, or certain units are locked out. A no infantry with bonus gold income for the week could be interesting and force a base rush strat for that game type for the week. Imagine two giant armies meeting in the middle of the map and trying to force the other back. In the event of a turn limit hit, the person with the most kills wins. Hell one week could basically be deathmatch with a kill limit set.
Something to change it up. It would be pretty neat. Maybe have also at the end of the week have a tourny based on that mutation. Instead of mutators and mutations it could be called the dextation or dexination of the week. Something cheesy that will make it stand out and have people check it out.

Hmmmm, interesting! This would be fun once all the main stuff is in and stable. Definitely a potential long-term feature.

i think it would be interesting for tournys. imagine a tourny with no air units no recon

thats a great idea. and stuff like only 4 card slots or 1 pack or weather for weeks like mist all units have movement - 1 and so on and so on^^
