Overview
Cards are an essential strategic element in Battledex. Every player can have up to 12 cards in every deck. There are currently 177 cards in eleven subcategories in the game.
Discount Units
These cards, also referred to as "Enlists", allow you to build one or more units at a cheaper cost. For instance, the "Enlist 2 Infantry" card allows you to create 2 infantry units for 100g, saving you 40g. There are also combined enlists (eg. Enlist AA and Heli) that allow you to build two different types of units at a discount.
Buffed Units
These cards give you a unit which already has a buff on it for less than the cost of the buff and the unit. The advantage you get from these cards in terms of gold is minimal. For instance, a Lethal Artillery costs 165g, while the Firepower buff card and Artillery costs 175. However another advantage you get is that instead of spending two deck slots on two cards to get a buffed unit, you can simply use a single buffed unit card for the same effect and less gold.
Usually these cards are used in sealed deck games to fill extra spots in the deck or to counter a particular enemy strategy. For instance, if you know that your opponent will line up artillery units, but tends not to build Anti-Air units, you could try a Lethal Fighter or Lethal Heli with Aviation Ballstics Boost.
Heals
Heal cards are used to restore the hit points of a damaged unit. Single turn heal cards like Medic will immediately restore a large number of hit points in one turn. There are also heal cards (eg. Recuperate) that restore a small number of hit points over multiple turns.
Some special and rare heals exist also, like Construction Crew, that have their own special usage. For instance, Construction Crew restores half of a building's max HP, and gives it +50% armor.
Mercenaries
These cards grant you a unit for a much cheaper price than it would normally cost, but they disappear after a certain time and have less hitpoints and deal less damage to buildings. There is currently one buffed mercenary.
These are often useful in situations where you want to make a lot of cheap units at the start to gain an early game advantage. For instance, you could make a Mercenary Heavy Tank, a Mercenary Anti-Air, and a Mercenary Heli and have them go straight for your opponent. They would be meat fodder for more powerful units, like buffed cards, but they would give you time to capture resources around the map without the enemy army hindering your infantry, and they might even kill a few permanent, more expensive enemy units.
Heroes
Heroes are very strong units of every type. There can be only one hero for every player in the same game. There are timed heroes, which are spawned next to a friendly unit and last for 4 turns, and permanent heroes, which are spawned at the base spawn locations normally, but are, of course, permanent.
Buffs
Buffs are cards which grant your units different types of bonusses.
Movement Buffs
Either make your units faster, or teleport them to other hexes of the map.
Damage Buffs
Make your units deal more damage.
Armor Buffs
Grant your units a damage reduction. A 10% Armor Buff is the equivalent of a 10% Damage Buff when calculating damage done by an attack.
Vision Buffs
Grant your units longer sight.
Range Buffs
Grant your units longer range.
Super Buffs
These are cards which combine a lot of other buffs together for a very cheap price. Cards for gaining experience also exist in this category, such as Boot Camp, which gives any two infantry credit for two kills each.
Debuffs
These are cards which make units immobile or unable to attack, or reduce their vision permanently or temporarily.
Special
In this category, there are different cards which do not fit into any other category, including factories, mines and instant-damage-cards.
